I thought I’d take a minute to write a quick “Happy Thanksgiving” post as our Thanksgiving feast is digesting—because really, I’m too full to do anything besides sit in front of the fire and type anyways. Since my job makes holiday travel challenging and because we’re moving in a little over a week (eee! construction permitting of course, fingers crossed), Dan and I decided to stay put this year and we cooked our first ever Thanksgiving dinner, just the 2 of us. Welcome to adulthood…
This is the first time in my (almost) 30 years that I’ve actually been able to choose what made it to my Thanksgiving plate, and I have to say, it was pretty fun picking out what the menu was comprised of. Here’s what we ate:
- Baked brie with cranberry sauce as an appetizer
- Turkey—for Dan of course, this vegetarian hasn’t celebrated Thanksgiving with turkey in almost 20 years
- Sage and onion stuffing
- Mashed potatoes
- Lemony green beans with almond breadcrumbs
- Sweet potato biscuits with maple butter
- Sweet potato pie
Was it awesome? You’d better believe it. I’m actually really impressed that the 2 of us were able to pull it together. It might have taken 5+ hours, but oh man, we made one hell of a feast.
Oh, and sweating. Did you expect to see a picture of me at the Turkey Trot? About that…I missed early registration and would have had to be there by 7am to register day-of, and well…there was pretty much no way I was going to wake up before 7am on my day off. Enough said. I did however do a beautiful 45 minute home yoga practice from Yoga International so that counts as my activity for the day. Tomorrow it’s to Pure Barre I go, and maybe I should throw an extra run in there just because…
Wishing everyone out there a very Happy Thanksgiving Eve. Wish me luck as I head into work for Black Friday madness tomorrow…
p.s. and Happy Chanukah to those who celebrate! We’ll be lighting the menorah and breaking out the dreidel over here when we have dessert: pumpkin bread with Graeter’s vanilla ice cream, mmm…
Happy Thanksgiving you two 🙂
You too Todd! Looking forward to seeing you next week when we’re in town. Any plans to come out to MI in the near future?
