Week 3 Recap and Week 4’s Plan of Attack

Holy wow, we’re already at week 4…time flies when you’re having fun (and getting sweaty). Here’s the recap of week 3:

  • 3 yoga practices
  • 1 swalk
  • 1 kickboxing class
  • 1 Hampton Inn fitness center session (elliptical and free weights)
  • 1 dune climb at Sleeping Bear Dunes

Is it just me, or does that look like 7 workouts in one week? Shabam! Although my first kickboxing class was pretty fun, the workout highlight of the week definitely goes to the Dune Climb at Sleeping Bear Dunes in northern MI. We’re up in the Traverse City area for the weekend hanging out with some friends who are in town and got to get a little winter sightseeing in in between microbrewery touring and lake effect snow (it’s legit a winter wonderland up here right now). Yesterday we made a pitstop in Glen Arbor and climbed to the top of a 500 ft. sand dune—which is pretty incredible if you remember that we’re on a lake and not the ocean. Those Great Lakes get me every time…

Anyways, this is what I’ve got planned for this week:

  • Monday: Home yoga practice
  • Tuesday: Afternoon run
  • Wednesday: Pure Barre
  • Thursday: Ann Arbor Turkey Trot!
  • Friday: Home yoga practice to recover from Black Friday retail madness
  • Saturday: In-store yoga at lululemon? Zumba (Zumba is my goal for this week’s “new to me” workout)? TBD…
  • Sunday: Technically it’s December 1st so I don’t have to do anything, but we’ll see…

Now off to enjoy another snowy day by Lake Michigan (and maybe a microbrew or 2)…

This Week’s Current Score: 3/3

That’s right, I’m 3 for 3 this week—woohoo! Monday I did an hour-long home yoga practice, Tuesday I took a 2 mile swalk at County Farm Park, and today I hit up Title Boxing Club for a kickboxing class with my co-worker Jordan (look how official I am with my new pink boxing wraps). That means that it’s only Wednesday and I’ve gone to one class at a studio, had my weekly #sweatdate, and tried a “new to me” workout. This girl is off to a good start.

As for the rest of the week, I’m debating swapping Pure Barre for a yoga class tomorrow morning because I had to miss out on yoga last night when our apartment tour ran a little late—have I mentioned that we’ve been staying with Dan’s parents since we moved to Ann Arbor in September? Our future apartment is new construction and there have been some major delays that have effected our move-in date (you know, that time we were supposed to move in on October 4th). Can everyone send some good energy our way to increase the chance that we’ll be able to move in by the scheduled date of December 7th? It’s all about the power of intention and the law of attraction, right?

All I want for Christmas this year is an apartment to call my own and my little Fannefur back (who’s been staying with friends back in Boston until we’re settled). Is that too much to ask?

Week 3’s Sweat Schedule

And here we are—week 3. Are you ready for this? I know I am. Here’s what last week looked like and what I’ve got planned for this week:

Week 2′s final tally:

  • 2 yoga practices
  • 1 run
  • 2 Pure Barre classes
  • 1 Barre-dio class

If you actually counted you’ll see that yes, it’s true—I missed a sweat (sad face). But hey, there’s no point in beating myself up, right? I will say that my plan was to double up on Sunday, but with the tornado watch and wacky weather we were experiencing here in the Midwest, I decided to stay put and play it safe. This week however, I’m vowing not to miss a day—and I expect all of you to hold me accountable. Here’s the line-up:

  • Monday: Home yoga practice.
  • Tuesday: Morning swalk and evening yoga class at Ita Yoga Studio
  • Wednesday: Kickboxing at 9:15am with a coworker (#sweatdate & new to me workout)
  • Thursday: Pure Barre
  • Friday: Pure Barre
  • Saturday: In-store yoga at lululemon
  • Sunday: TBD. We’ll be up in Traverse City for the weekend touring some northern Michigan breweries with friends so I’m not entirely sure what our day will look like. I’m hoping the weather holds up for a run on Lake Michigan. Fingers crossed…

Happy Monday!

Midweek Sweat Check

Here’s my midweek sweat check:

Monday morning I did a home yoga practice and threw in a few extra Sun Salute S’s and rounds of agni sara (a yogic practice that creates heat like crazy) to get my heart rate up and create a few tiny little drops of perspiration. Then in the evening I met some friends for a Barre-dio class, which is basically an aerobic style workout mixed in with barre moves for toning. It was…interesting, but hey, I definitely burned some calories and learned some really cheesy dance moves so at least there’s that.

Yesterday…well, I hate to say it but I skipped out on my sweat sesh. I worked all day, had a few things to take care of when I got home, and then Dan and I had tickets to see the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (remember July’s lent?) and I just didn’t have time to do something sweaty and take a shower before the show. I know, I get an F, but does my cheat get cancelled out if Monday and Wednesday are both double sweat days? I’m going with yes…

And today, I started my morning with a chilly 2 mile run in the 20˚ Michigan weather and am planning on doing a little yoga before work once my breakfast has a chance to digest (yoga on a full stomach is never a good idea).

I’m sticking to my original plan for the rest of the week, but if you’re local and want to do something sweaty with me, lemme know!

Week 1 Recap and Week 2’s Lineup

I have to say…that was easier than I thought it would be. Somehow fitting in at least 1 sweat-breaking activity into my daily routine didn’t pose that big of a challenge and I finished up the first week of my Sweat Once A Day challenge having completed every workout, adhering to all of my guidelines. Danne bam!

Here’s week 1’s final tally:

  • 3 yoga practices
  • 3 walks or swalks (speed walks) as I like to say
  • 1 Pure Barre class
  • 1 Real Ryder class

So, what’s up for this week?

  • Monday: Home yoga practice in the morning and an evening Barre-dio Barre class with a few girls from work (I have no idea what Barre-dio Barre means either, I’ll be sure to report back). Not only is that 2 workouts in 1 day, but Barre-dio Barre counts for a “new to me workout” and also a #sweatdate. Ha!
  • Tuesday: 2-mile run
  • Wednesday: Yoga practice and/or a class at AFS
  • Thursday: Pure Barre before work
  • Friday: TBD. Maybe an afternoon run or swalk?
  • Saturday: Home yoga practice or in-store yoga at lululemon before work
  • Sunday: Checking out Divine Yoga Company with my lulu ladies for a 75-minute class

Make sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram too so you can stay updated on my sweaty endeavors in between blog posts.

Oh, and on another note, I turn 30 in exactly one month. #holyshit

My favorite part of taking a walk is taking Instagram pictures of my walk haha

No better time to take a walk than during golden hour, right?

Ready, Set, Sweat

Although I wouldn’t say I’m back to 100%, I’m certainly on the mend and the worst of my untimely little sickness seems to have passed (knock on wood). I might have had to take the first 3 days of this challenge off, but I’ve nursed myself back to health and am finally ready to get sweaty—moderately sweaty, let’s not get crazy here…

Here’s what’s on the agenda for my first official week of November’s Sweat Once A Day lent:

Monday: I kicked things off by taking a nice, long walk—which I did indeed break a sweat on btw, don’t judge walking.

Tuesday: A 60-minute hatha yoga class

Wednesday: A 90-minute home yoga practice (I have to keep up with my teacher training homework afterall) and maybe a walk/jog too if I have time.

Thursday: An early morning Pure Barre class before work

Friday: A Real Ryder class with my lulu ladies (which I’ve never done before so it counts for a “new to me workout”, a #sweatdate, and a studio workout—bam!)

Saturday: In-store yoga at lululemon before work

Sunday: TBD, but it’ll probably consist of a home yoga practice, a run, or a Pure Barre class. And maybe some yin yoga thrown in there as a bonus—because it’s the perfect way to cap off any week, especially a sweaty one.

Anyone else joining me for this sweaty challenge? How’s it going for you?

Takin’ It Easy and Gettin’ Sweaty

It’s the last day of the month…again (how does this keep happening?) and although I’ve really been enjoying my practice of daily intention setting, I’m feeling ready to close this one out and get started on my next endeavor. What’s been cool about this challenge is that it’s felt like a month full of micro-lents; each day presenting a new challenge to put into practice and a means to narrow my focus. It’s been a nice reminder too that every day offers a new opportunity to begin again and to refocus—which is especially helpful on days when you might not be feeling your best. This challenge might officially be over, but I have a feeling that today won’t be the last time I use my little intention journal (I mean, it’s too cute to not use, right?).

So, what’s next on the lent menu? Sweat Once A Day.

I don’t know how I’ve been keeping this blog for almost 5 years—and more importantly—how I’ve been working for lululemon for 2 years and this one hasn’t come up yet, but I’ve somehow never done any sort of fitness challenge. Say what?!

Even though I’ll be the first one to tell you that I actually kind of hate sweating (I know, I know), no one’s going to argue that getting your heart rate up is great for you for a whole host of reasons. Since I’ve been slacking on doing any form of exercise that isn’t gentle yoga with an occasional Pure Barre class thrown into the mix, it’s time to get physical.

Here are my guidelines:

  • I will do some sort of activity/workout that causes me to break a sweat every single day for the month of November.
  • This activity will preferably be at least 30 minutes long, but absolutely no shorter than 15.
  • 2 of my weekly sweats must be at a studio/gym.
  • I must try 1 “new to me” workout each week (because it’s kind of crazy that I’ve never been to a spin class, right?)
  • I sweat per week must be with a friend #sweatdate

The kicker is that last night towards the end of the Sox game—you know, the one where they won the World Series at Fenway Park for the first time since 1918, NBD—I started to get that “Oh crap, I think I’m getting sick” feeling. Perfect, just in time for my month of extreme physical exertion to start. I’m not officially down for the count yet, and I’m doing everything in my power to nip this one in the bud, but I’m a little weary to how this challenge is going to start out. Here’s hoping the orange juice, cayenne pepper and raw garlic concoction that I just chugged staves off this potential sickness.

Tonight’s intention: Take it easy.
