Today’s Run Brought To You By: Britney Spears, Jason Derulo, and Beyoncé

After yesterday’s bragging about how “effortless” my runs have been lately, today’s run was anything but. Serves me right for gloating, I suppose. After work I went to Pure Barre, which isn’t out of the ordinary for me, but today’s class kicked my ass 10,000 times more than it usually does (holy thigh work), and my poor little legs were yelling at me to couch myself for the rest of the night.

Sorry legs, I still have to get a mile in before midnight. FML.

After an extended bout of procrastination, I dragged my sore self down to the gym and slowly, but successfully, eked out my mile. Phew. I couldn’t have done it without the help of Britney Spears, Jason Derulo, and Beyoncé though, who provided the soundtrack that I had fun lip-synching to in the gym mirror as I ran. On another note, I’m also glad that I was the only person in the gym tonight so the aforementioned lip-sync sesh was possible.

I’d love some suggestions too, what are your favorite songs to run/workout to? I’ve been working on a running playlist for the past few weeks and would love some new additions. Pop, classic rock, hipster dance hits, I’m all ears…

#beastmode

Slightly sweaty and rosy-cheeked, I walked into our apartment’s gym the other night and was greeted by a guy from our building that I’ve met a few times before. As I hopped on the treadmill, he looked at me and said (in a slightly confused tone), “Hey Danne, how’s it going?…Wait, it looks like you already went to the gym”, to which I replied, “Ha! You’re right. I actually just got back from Pure Barre and I’m getting a quick run in before I head to yoga”. Which was 100% true. Pure Barre + Running + Yoga = Beast Mode. I’m totally crushing this month.

While I can’t say that I’ve actually enjoyed running any of the last 11 days (I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with running), I’ve still managed to do it regardless. Whether I like it or not, committing to get a mile in a day is pretty doable and not so bad after all. Plus I’ve already lost a pound so there’s that, right?

11 for 11 and the month continues on…

and…Happy Mother’s Day to all the mammas out there, especially my own. I might look more like my Dad, but I’m pretty sure I’m my mother’s daughter in every other way. Thanks for always being the “cool mom” and for giving me the best upbringing a girl could ask for. Love you lots Mumsie xoxo

Week 3’s Sweat Schedule

And here we are—week 3. Are you ready for this? I know I am. Here’s what last week looked like and what I’ve got planned for this week:

Week 2′s final tally:

  • 2 yoga practices
  • 1 run
  • 2 Pure Barre classes
  • 1 Barre-dio class

If you actually counted you’ll see that yes, it’s true—I missed a sweat (sad face). But hey, there’s no point in beating myself up, right? I will say that my plan was to double up on Sunday, but with the tornado watch and wacky weather we were experiencing here in the Midwest, I decided to stay put and play it safe. This week however, I’m vowing not to miss a day—and I expect all of you to hold me accountable. Here’s the line-up:

  • Monday: Home yoga practice.
  • Tuesday: Morning swalk and evening yoga class at Ita Yoga Studio
  • Wednesday: Kickboxing at 9:15am with a coworker (#sweatdate & new to me workout)
  • Thursday: Pure Barre
  • Friday: Pure Barre
  • Saturday: In-store yoga at lululemon
  • Sunday: TBD. We’ll be up in Traverse City for the weekend touring some northern Michigan breweries with friends so I’m not entirely sure what our day will look like. I’m hoping the weather holds up for a run on Lake Michigan. Fingers crossed…

Happy Monday!

Week 1 Recap and Week 2’s Lineup

I have to say…that was easier than I thought it would be. Somehow fitting in at least 1 sweat-breaking activity into my daily routine didn’t pose that big of a challenge and I finished up the first week of my Sweat Once A Day challenge having completed every workout, adhering to all of my guidelines. Danne bam!

Here’s week 1’s final tally:

  • 3 yoga practices
  • 3 walks or swalks (speed walks) as I like to say
  • 1 Pure Barre class
  • 1 Real Ryder class

So, what’s up for this week?

  • Monday: Home yoga practice in the morning and an evening Barre-dio Barre class with a few girls from work (I have no idea what Barre-dio Barre means either, I’ll be sure to report back). Not only is that 2 workouts in 1 day, but Barre-dio Barre counts for a “new to me workout” and also a #sweatdate. Ha!
  • Tuesday: 2-mile run
  • Wednesday: Yoga practice and/or a class at AFS
  • Thursday: Pure Barre before work
  • Friday: TBD. Maybe an afternoon run or swalk?
  • Saturday: Home yoga practice or in-store yoga at lululemon before work
  • Sunday: Checking out Divine Yoga Company with my lulu ladies for a 75-minute class

Make sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram too so you can stay updated on my sweaty endeavors in between blog posts.

Oh, and on another note, I turn 30 in exactly one month. #holyshit

My favorite part of taking a walk is taking Instagram pictures of my walk haha

No better time to take a walk than during golden hour, right?

Ready, Set, Sweat

Although I wouldn’t say I’m back to 100%, I’m certainly on the mend and the worst of my untimely little sickness seems to have passed (knock on wood). I might have had to take the first 3 days of this challenge off, but I’ve nursed myself back to health and am finally ready to get sweaty—moderately sweaty, let’s not get crazy here…

Here’s what’s on the agenda for my first official week of November’s Sweat Once A Day lent:

Monday: I kicked things off by taking a nice, long walk—which I did indeed break a sweat on btw, don’t judge walking.

Tuesday: A 60-minute hatha yoga class

Wednesday: A 90-minute home yoga practice (I have to keep up with my teacher training homework afterall) and maybe a walk/jog too if I have time.

Thursday: An early morning Pure Barre class before work

Friday: A Real Ryder class with my lulu ladies (which I’ve never done before so it counts for a “new to me workout”, a #sweatdate, and a studio workout—bam!)

Saturday: In-store yoga at lululemon before work

Sunday: TBD, but it’ll probably consist of a home yoga practice, a run, or a Pure Barre class. And maybe some yin yoga thrown in there as a bonus—because it’s the perfect way to cap off any week, especially a sweaty one.

Anyone else joining me for this sweaty challenge? How’s it going for you?

A shot from yesterday’s walk. The midwest is no New England, but there’s some pretty lovely foliage here as well.

Oh Shiva, I was glad to see you at class this morning…
